"things that we lost" are things from our past we dont think about anymore until they force themselves into our lives. like the smell of something from your childhood, or a piece of clothing from years ago.
"things that we find" are things that make us think about where we're going, what we can do, what we want to do, or inspire us.

but i like your idea

a weird piece of string is mine because it makes me think of a very specific thing
personalizing the objects makes them "owned"
